Katherine and Graham’s Carnival Wedding

A carnival wedding, wow! How cool are Katherine and Graham. Their wedding was full of personal touches and personality and had a perfect laid back field. The helter skelter cake is stunning and getting all the guests involved in sack races, welling wanging and the egg and spoon races (amongst many other games) are a great way to get everyone in a party mood.

Some great little touches like the personalised cider with great bottle labels and photos of all their guests hung around the marque made this wedding a real representation of the couple. Katharine says “Its good to make your wedding as unique as possible, whilst lots of the extras most certainly appear at other peoples weddings they related to us and made the day even more exciting”

Thanks to Gary from Marshal Gray Photography for these wonderful photos.

How would you describe your wedding day?

Laid back, carnival/mini fairground/ festival feel

What was your favourite part of the day?

Difficult to say, walking down the aisle and seeing all your friends is pretty awesome, the speeches are a great time to reflect and see all your guests – I probably enjoyed the evening do the most as you could let your hair down a bit!

Words of wisdom for couples planning their wedding?

1. Either plan or don’t stress out when its not all done just how you want it. I didn’t manage to do either. Im not sure anyone else noticed…. But even if you do its best not to let it bother you.

2. Enjoy it …. Everyone says it .. but it goes way to quickly so don’t spend time worrying about people or things.

3. We didn’t plan our honeymoon in time so just took a short break, if you desperately want that honeymoon id strongly advise this to be one of your first jobs to avoid disappointment.

The best advice you received for your big day?

Point 2 as above… – if I did it again id get married at 9.00am!!

Anything you’d change?

Not really – perhaps a warmer day!

The Detail

Wedding Dress: I had my dress designed. This isn’t for the faint hearted as I found out. Lots of stress and tears but worth it if you can stick it out. I got my dress designed by a lovely wedding dress company Leading Ladies. It is run by two sisters, lots of ideas and experience and lovely to work with. Based in Sherburn in Elemet.

Brides Shoes: I didn’t go down the traditional route – I had a pair of turquoise peep toe heels from Fly London.

Jewellery: Not really me – I just had my engagement ring, wedding ring and some flowers in my hair.

Hair and makeup: Local supplier Joanne Abbishaw. She was lovely and I couldn’t recommend her highly enough. I changed my mind a few times even on the day but she was able to work with me to get the final look that I wanted. I found Joanne through Facetime and she is also based in Garforth.

Grooms Suit: After much trawling we settled on Slaters – the cheapest option and were helpful and flexible. This was one of the last jobs (last 6 weeks) but they still had stock.

Bridesmaids: We didn’t have traditional bridesmaid dress, just went on the high street. In the end it was a mix of different dresses – same colour.

Groomsman: Slaters

Flowers: I wanted a wildflower bouquet, just simple flowers that looked they had been just picked from a field. I used a local supplier in Garforth, Leeds called The Flower House. The flowers looked amazing on the day and lasted for weeks afterwards.

Ceremony: Church ceremony at St Mary’s in South Milford.

Reception Venues: Reception venue was a nearby field also in South Milford called Mushroom Ponds. Very simple and pretty location with fishing ponds and space to camp.

Photographer: This was something that I definitely didn’t want to compromise on and I am so glad that I spent the money I did to have some really amazing photos to remember our day. Gary (aka Marshal Gray) and his second shooter Claudia are lovely and really easy to get on with… on the day you don’t even notice that they are there despite taking so many shots. I would definitely recommend Gary and Claudia to any couple.

Music: We didn’t have a band – we put together a playlist and played it over the ipod.

Cake: We used a local supplier who built me the most amazing helter skelter. If you want the details you can email John Burden through the mushroom pond website.

Catering: We used a company called Henry’s Kitchen. They cooked up a massive bbq and a hog roast for the evening

Favours: We made our own wild flower sachets.

Save the Dates and Invitations: One of our friends designed a fairground themed invitation / we saved on costs by delaying the mail out and rolled the save the date and invitation into one.
