Chris and Helena’s Beautifully Detailed Swartland Wedding

We have a beautiful South African wedding for you today. Chris and Helena had the most amazing details, which I think are even more special as they were all made by friends and family. It’s wonderful to see everyone helping to bring a little something extra to make the bride and grooms day special. As you can see it made for a very personal and beautiful day. The lovely photos are by Madre from Madre Kohn Creative.

How would you describe your wedding day?
It was a perfect sunny day with a light breeze to cool us of a little. Me and Chris love being outdoors and our venue was perfect for our characteristics. We got married in the bush and it made the wedding vibe so relaxed. During our ceremony there where white butterflies flying over us (as from a little girl I believe that butterflies is good luck). Afterwards we had a small reception with family and close friends.

What was your favourite part of the day?
Such a special moment driving to the chapel with our ford fairlane my father bought when we were young, my mom sitting in front, my sister and other bridesmaid next to me in the back. What a blessing to walk down the aisle with my father and having our friend preaching for us.

Words of wisdom for couples planning their wedding?
It is very important to know what you as couple want for your wedding. Every couple is different and want something else. When you realize what you want, you stick with it and do everything the way you want it. Get friends and family to help you. They want to help make your special day come true, so let them. One of my bridesmaid did our flowers. My sister-in-law organized a friend to do our make-up. My sister, father and Chris made the hearts for our chapel. My brothers helped to paint the coffee cans where we put the flowers in. For the presents for our guest, I crochet heart magnets for the woman and my mother – in – law made chocolate brownies for the men. I also crochet the shoulder bouquet for the men and my garter. My uncle from Loeriesfontein, dried out “soutbossies” that we used for our confetti. One of my aunts make her own cheese, so we used it for our bread table as an appetizer. All these help and little things made our wedding day much more personal.

The best advice you received for your big day?
Invite only the people who you want to spend your wedding day with. It is not that easy to set the guest list, but it is so important to invite the people you love and having fun with.

Anything you’d change?
Our wedding day was perfect, exactly the way we wanted it to be. Small, personal and intimate.
