Gina and Derik’s Green and Red Wintery Wonderland

So…how beautiful is this wedding! Red and green never looked so good. Gina and Derik had their lovely winter wedding at the end of last year at Brenaissance in Stellenbosch. Cape Town winters can be a bit wet, but luckily the sun was out to celebrate.

I love how fresh and inviting the decor was and isn’t Gina’s dress and bird cage veil just stunning! This is a beautiful wedding in a beautiful setting and a couple that looked like they had a wonderful day! These fabulous photos are by Zara-Zoo Photography, so if you are in the Cape Town area do check them out.

How would you describe your wedding day?
It was a wonderful winter wedding day on the 4th of August 2012. Cool and crisp with beautiful rays of sunlight greeting us through the thin clouds. We stayed at the venue and it was wonderful. To wake up on your wedding day must be one of the most exciting and most scariest moments of your life. When I walked into the all-prepared reception hall the morning of the wedding and everything was freshly white with touches of red and grey, I was in awe. The big day has arrived and it looked perfect! Better than we could wish for. The big picture came together and we were very happy with the result of hard work. We were engaged for a mere 3 months and it was just enough time to get everything organized. We got engaged in May and my husband wanted to get married in winter time and we didn’t want to wait another year as we have been together for 5 years, we decided to be bold and get married the same winter! And we wouldn’t do it any other way if we got the chance.

What was your favourite part of the day?
There were a few moments that was really precious which we will never forget. The first for me was walking down the aisle and looking straight into the eyes of the man I want to spend the rest of my life with! I couldn’t even remember who sat next to the aisle, I was aiming straight at him! Then when we prayed in Church, our 2 nephews said “amen” with the priest as they were taught by their parents, while al the other guests kept quiet. The two fine voices echoed through the church for every guest to enjoy! Then the most favorite for the both of us was the first dance where we had the entire dance floor for just the two of us. We like dancing. And the desert display as my husband is a big sweet tooth.

Do you have any words of wisdom for couples planning their wedding?
If you get to the point were you are engaged, you know that you want to be with each other for everyday for the rest of your lives. If possible, get married as soon as you can get your arrangements in order. This saves you the opportunity to re-invent the wheel and consider and reconsider every decision. The small things doesn’t matter! If every serviette is not the same size, it doesn’t matter! If you don’t get your seating plan as perfect as you would have liked, it doesn’t matter, the guests will dance and move around for the most part of the reception. The most important is for you and your spouse to have all the friends and family at your big day. And remember that it should be YOUR friends an family, no one else’s.

What was the best advice you received for your big day?
Wear comfortable shoes and walk them in!! You will be wearing them for a loooong day! And no one likes aching feet.

Is there anything you’d change?
After the wedding, the first thing my husband and I said we would change, is to invite less guests. We started at a guest list of 192 and ended up at 160, as thins was the max amount of guests the venue could fit. We could actually have made it to 130. Three weeks after the wedding we had a list of 12 people we will not invite the next time we get married.
